10 reasons/hotspots why I love living in the Eastern part of Amsterdam:
1) All the luck in the World
Jane and Nina, are mother and daughter and owner of All the luck in the World. They have multiple locations in Amsterdam and Utrecht, but “my own” All the luck in the World is located at the Linnaeusstraat. The shop sells beautiful vintage and new design combined with hand made goods by (local) artists and small independant labels. Moreover, you can get great coffee at the coffee corner of the shop. Perfect place to sit down and work on my computer.
At Doordeweeks (weekdays) you can find vintage and new clothing, edgy furniture and inspiring work of young artists. It’s a kind of offline platform for young and new creative people. What I like is the changing collections; every week there are new things to discover here.
3) Bar Wisse
Bar Wisse is a small, cosy bar/restaurant where you can stop by every moment of the day (breakfast, lunch and diner). They call themselves the ‘Living room of East’. And that’s quite true!
4) De Vergulden Eenhoorn
Beautiful located city ‘farm’ (dating from 1702) with a great restaurant, a cozy café, a picnic garden and even a small hotel. De Vergulden Eenhoorn looks and feels like a hidden green jewel!
5) Rum Baba
My favourite place to catch a fresh scone. All their baked goods are homemade, delicious! And they also roast their own coffee. Another reason to stop by here regularly.
Kids concept store with really nice brands like Imps & Elfs and Bangbang Copenhagen. If you’re searching for a cool gift for a kid/baby you’re totally at the right place here.
7) Maxwell Cafe
Low key restaurant/bar. I often come at Maxwell to grab a quick bite to eat. It’s not expensive, the crew is really nice and there is always a lively atmosphere.
8) Sports World Amsterdam & Sportfondsenbad Oost
For my daily/weekly sport routine I go to Sports World Amsterdam. The building is just beautiful (and totally not what you would expect for a healthclub); it’s in a historic building from 1887. They also offer groupclasses, Body and Mind lessons and there is even a good restaurant in it. Almost next to this gym, there is a swimming compelx called Sportfondsenbad. Perfect for a swim now and then!
9) Huize Frankendael / Restaurant Merkelbach
Located on the outside of the Frankendeal Park you can find Huize Frankendael. It’s the last historic mansion in Amsterdam and it offers a space for art, culture and gastronomy. Restaurant Merkelbach is located in the right coach house of Huize Frankendael. Here you can eat food which is inspired by the slow food movement.
10) Wellness 1926 & Skin Spa Store
When I’m in need of some good rest for my body and soul, I go to Wellness 1926. Here you can get great massages, manicures but you can also go to the sauna or hammam. All in a Mediterranean atmosphere. Next to the wellness you can find the beauty salon Skin Spa Store. Really cool: the owner has designed the interior all by herself!
