Beautiful, handcrafted, colorful jewelry pieces made from rope combined with stunning photography, that’s PICHULIK, a brand named after Cape Town based designer Katherine-Mary Pichulik. It’s really a brand to love…
After a year traveling Europe and India, Katherine-Mary returned inspired to create wearable pieces that re-conceptualise the tribal and African aesthetic. A PICHULIK accessory is a distilled abstraction of a feeling or a moment (that can be a drawing from photographs, travel, memories and individuals). And there’s more: with a loyal commitment to locally sourced materials and handcrafting, PICHULIK wishes to expand helping develop and grow South Africa.
The newest collection is inspired by the photography of Helmut Newton and his intimate portraits of powerful women in their own personal spaces, accompanied by the following (almost poetic) description:
“Jewellery is worn close to a woman’s skin, brushes her neck, clasps her earlobe. AW 2014 invites our brave lady on some close up encounters. With a cinematic approach to portraying these classic 70s heroines we imagine nights of disco dancing and clubhouse parties. Garden kisses and a late night rendevouz in his Aston Martin listening to Jimmy Croon LA Woman.
With jewel tones and wooden parts, suede and agate stones and tassels, this collection skirts the glamour of 70s disco, and the soul of psychedelia. Kick those platforms off and dance on those carpeted floors and wooden-clad lounges till the dawn meets your cat-lined eyes.”
