When your boyfriend wants to go to a salad bar for a quick bite instead of McDonalds, than you definitely can say there is a health-revolution going on. With salad- & juice-bars and yoga schools popping up everywhere, being/feeling healthy is one of the most important basics of us youngsters. But it’s hard keeping up with all of these new health vocabularies surrounding us. And where do you get time to get to know all of these new yoga and green movements? Speaking for myself: I really like being healthy, but I totally know nothing about superfoods or whatsoever. When I go to a Vitamin bar I let the person behind the counter choose for me. Especially when I’m in a hurry.
I felt that this needed to change, so to do some good research (and also for a bit of self-consciousness) I decided to take part in a special course at De Nieuwe Yogaschool called Detox in the City. A course developed especially for the busy minded people living in the concrete jungle, who are in need of a weekend full of body- and mind-cleaning. Beginning at Friday evening and ending at Sunday morning. Sandra de Vos*, one of the two mentors about the speical city-detox weekend:
“Monique Jansse**, the other mentor of the weekend, felt the need for a detox. But somewhere close to home, without the need to take a whole week free from work; something you can just give yourself as a gift to unwind once in a while. With this idea she came to me and we worked out together the Detox in the City-concept. During the detox-weekend Monique takes care of the yoga sessions and I take care of the juices, smoothies and food inspiration parts.”
And it has to be said: the weekend felt almost liberating. It was hard sometimes, because the detox was strict, the weather outside was really summery and saying no to a good glass of wine was therefore harsh. But the intensive yoga lessons were interesting and even enjoyable (even for me, being not a huge yoga professional) and the food inspration was more than enthralling. Sandra is the kind of woman who has a philosophy, but she she does not force it on you. The kind of things I NOW know about food (ever heard of kombucha or how to make wheatgrass tasty?) really complements my consciousness
So if you’re ever in need of a mini-retreat, escaping that concrete jungle, get yourself together and do a Detox in the City. A revived feeling afterwards guaranteed. The next Detox in the City-weekend will start at the 1st of August and costs €179,-.
