THERE ARE SO MANY BEAUTIFUL, SPECIAL, DELICIOUS, ADVENTUROUS PLACES IN THE WORLD. BUT WHAT ARE THE CITIES, RESTAURANTS, MUSEUMS, COFFEE BARS, SHOPS, ETC., ETC., WHERE YOU COULD BUMP INTO A STIJLMEISJE? IN ‘HOTSPOTS‘ WE SHOW YOU THE PLACES WE THINK ARE WORTH VISITING.
In the middle of the Red Light District you can find restaurant/bar Mata Hari*, a more than comfortable place to have some good lunch, drink a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) and chat or work for a bit. The place has a really good ‘hanging around vibe’. Last week we went there to have some lunch with the three of us, ordering:
– A salad with black quinoa, little gem, granny smith, feta, cranberries, avocado, sunflower seeds and sesame-lime dressing
– A spelt sandwich with homemade mackerel salad with avocado and Scotch Bonnet sauce
– A multi-grain sandwich with aged manchego with roasted Turkish green pepper and rhubarb chutney
Enough ingredients I would say! But it also has to be said that the plenitude of these ingredients makes the dishes more than tasty. Sometimes maybe a bit too spicy (at least for me), but delicious. If you’re visiting Amsterdam and you want to take a step back from the hectic tourist places around the famous Red Light District during lunch- or dinner-time, go to Mata Hari. Great food, good vibes, swell place!
* Mata Hari ((7 August 1876 – 15 October 1917; her real name was Margaretha Geertruida “Margreet” Zelle MacLeod), was a member of the Frisian minority from the Netherlands, and was an exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy and executed by firing squad in France under charges of espionage for Germany during World War I.
