THERE ARE SO MANY BEAUTIFUL, SPECIAL, DELICIOUS, ADVENTUROUS PLACES IN THE WORLD. BUT WHAT ARE THE CITIES, RESTAURANTS, MUSEUMS, COFFEE BARS, SHOPS, ETC., ETC., WHERE YOU COULD BUMP INTO A ‘STIJLMEISJE’? IN HOTSPOTS I SHOW YOU THE PLACES I THINK ARE WORTH VISITING.
Restaurant Mercat is located in the Eastern Docklands of Amsterdam and is the hotspot to go to if you want to have a real Spanish experience. The interior is totally inspired by and based on typical Spanish markets. Once you go inside you feel like being in Spain yourself….
At the big, open and very inviting bar in the middle of Mercat you can choose from a large selection of wines and cavas. On top of the bar all kind of bites and small dishes are displayed (pinchos) which you can taste while you are sipping on your wine. Beside these small delicious Spanish bites which you can eat at the bar, you can also sit down at one of the many tables (if you’r lucky and the weather is good, you can sit in the large sunny terrace outside) and enjoy one or more dishes from the menu. The chef draws inspiration from everything that makes Spanish cuisine so tasty. That’s also the reason that Mercat can’t be compared with just an ordinary tapas restaurant.
The mix of colorful vintage and modern furniture with the spacious, typical Spanish bar makes Mercat a place with a special and relaxed Mediterranean vibe. I was more than surprised by the food and the atmosphere when I was at Mercat last week to experience this Spanish hotspot. Sella made the following impression of Mercat that evening:
