Dorhout Mees
Dutch designer Esther Louise Dorhout Mees founded the label Dorhout Mees in 2010. After her studies at ArtEZ Academy of Arts in Arnhem and many years of working as a designer for established labels, such as Bruuns Bazaar and Tommy Hilfiger, it was time to start her own label.

Dorhout Mees is distinctive in its elegant style. It is feminine and conceptual, but wearability is always an important element. Organic forms contrasted sharp next to constructual forms. The base of all collections are prints, silk, wool and delicate knits. Combined with the use of wearable unconventional materials.

I. Me, myself and I
Creative, Perfectionist, sensitive, looking for beauty in everything.

II. All time style icon
Don’t have one. Style to me is inspiration and ever-changing, and both of those things are everywhere around you constantly. You just have to look around all the time.

III. Favorite fashion item

If only one, at this moment in time (because, this too is a changing thing) I would say shoes. As I am developing my own shoes right now. They need to be amazing ones, that will brighten the most basic outfit.

IV. Personal style secret
I love accentuating the female body, but not in an obvious way. It should be amazing, but it do has to look effortless.

V. Best shopcity ever

Kopenhagen & Paris, no doubt.

VI. Must-visit hotspot

Kopenhagen: Ruby, for the best cocktails in a great hidden place that looks like a living room.
Amsterdam: Geisha for Sushi or Pont 13 for the great atmosphere

VII. Guilty pleasure
Dancing in my atelier with the music really, really loud as a way to relieve the stress or just to have a nice break.

VIII. Always in my bag

Lipbalm and music

IX. On my wall please

Impossible but in my dream: ‘Meisje in de rode kimono” George Hendrik Breitner or Yves Klein, Blue Monochrome, and at the moment also; Koen Hauser, Sculptural Nudes No. 3

X. Best way to travel
Light & by motorbike or car: to have the freedom to go everywhere and anywhere you want.

This Sunday, January 26th, Esther will present her new A/W 2014-2015 collection (which will be her 7th collection already) during Amsterdam Fashion Week, called “PASSAGE”.
